Talvez um dia o Saara volte a ser verde. Comparação interessante entre Setembro de 2023 e 2024 resultado da precipitação bem acima da média.

The Sahara Desert is one of the driest places on Earthhowever, in September 2024, a large part of the area is expected to receive more than 500% of the typical monthly rainfall levels as a result of an unusual weather configuration.

A comparison of these two Copernicus Sentinel-2 images acquired over Tanout, in Niger, on 14 September 2023 and 8 September 2024 illustrates the effects of the increased rainfall in the Sahara. The images reveal a noticeable increase in green areas, indicating the growth of vegetation which has thrived following the unusual precipitation.

Open data from the Copernicus Services and Sentinel satellites provides important information for better understanding global climate phenomena and their impact on local communities and ecosystems. This data is key to studying and preparing for a changing environment, helping to protect natural resources and ensuring a more sustainable future.
